SUBSIDIZED EMPLOYMENT FOR VETERANS: a New Initiative to help Veterans to help build a Green America

Unemployment is a national problem requiring strong, immediate Congressional action. Many of my fellow Americans and I are concerned about the current US employment climate and the detrimental impact of unemployment for millions of people including thousands of veterans across the Nation.

In an interview on July 6 2011, president Obama confirmed that young veterans have a higher unemployment rate than people who did not serve. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in June 2011, veterans from the post-9/11 period had an unemployment rate of 13.5 percent. By comparison, non-veterans that month had an 8.5 percent unemployment rate.

We all know the economy in most of America is extremely fragile and unemployment remains at near record levels. New jobs created mainly from many small and medium size businesses. Companies are reluctant to hire new employees because of the high cost of personnel in an uncertain and weak economy.

Honoring all veterans

Over the past years subsidized employment has helped low income families under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and has created 235,000 jobs across 34 States. This is the standout successful program of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Unfortunately, the original TANF was expired on September 30, 2011 and has been extended only in a small number of states with limited funding. California and many other states are excluded in the extended TANF program in 2011.

We believe that the people in California, especially our veterans should not be deprived an opportunity to get help to launch a job lifeline for their families.

Thnak you veterans

Subsidized Employment for Veterans (SEV) program will be a win-win-win for the job seekers, employers and the society at large.  Many young men and women who have fulfilled their duty by risking their lives serving our Nation in the Gulf War should deserve our support not only from the potential employers but from the Congress, representing the commitment of the people for our veterans.

The jobs that will be created through the SEV will be giving our veterans solid work skills, building their confidence, and providing an income for their families.

Homeless Veteran

This Subsidized Employment for Veterans (SEV) program, like the Civil Conservation Corp and WPA during the Great Depression, will help the veterans and their employers directly, which will put money and jobs back into the local economy. Our society should do our fair share by doing our very best to support our veterans.
